Stewart family gives reason for taking public stance

The Stewart family said today that its decision to speak out publicly was driven by countless slurs been leveled at the wider family by some members of the claimants family.

“We have sat quietly and resisted the temptation to express our views but we have lost patience particularly with one member of the claimant’s family who has taken it upon himself to bully his own family members as well as making insulting and slanderous comments about us,” the Stewart family said.

“This person chooses to hide behind name suppression orders to take pot shots at us.”

That aside the Stewart family has never wavered from their united support for Peter Stewart. The family has a right to seek justice – justice that even members of the claimants family believes needs to be done.

To quote one family member whose comments were published in the press this week:

“Being very close, I have seen the actions and heard the untruths put forward. I also attended the trial and this only confirmed my belief that Peter is innocent.

“Prior to trial there were claims for compensation that I heard discussed by the claimant’s supporters. The employment of a private investigator is the only means by which Peter and the family can now seek to find a platform by which to overturn this injustice.

“It is absolutely my belief that Peter is innocent of all charges and it is the claimant who should be imprisoned.”

Suffice to say the Stewart family shares the view of the claimant’s sibling. The conviction against Peter is based on claims that allegedly occurred 40 years ago. These claims only surfaced when the claimant was facing financial difficulty. The Stewart family makes no apology for fighting to clear the name of one of its family members.
