Bierre vindicated in claim against former PM
Media Release - Dr Tony Bierre vindicated in claim against former Prime Minister
Dr Tony Bierre yesterday received a letter from former Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Helen Clark, conceding that he did not commit an offence against the law, as she had previously suggested.
"The letter vindicates my position that I have never broken the law", says Dr Bierre.
The acknowledgement brings to an end defamation proceedings initiated by Dr Bierre against Ms Clark. lt also comes on top of the recent Court of Appeal finding that Dr Bierre did not breach any law in relation to a contract formed between Auckland District Health Boards (DHBs) and LabTests Auckland Ltd for diagnostic services.
"Miss Clark's acknowledgement that I did not commit any offence provides me the opportunity to finally restore my reputation, and brings to an end a matter that has both jeopardised my professional career and inflicted significant emotional hardship on my family.
"I am pleased this matter has been resolved and I look forward to moving on", concluded Dr Bierre.
Dr Bierre, a pathologist and former Auckland DHB member, was compelled to initiate proceedings against the former Prime Minister after she made public statements in March 2007 that suggested Dr Bierre had committed an offence against the law during the contract tender process.
Her full letter, which is open and public, is attached.
