The Case for Local Government Reform
‘Prospects for Change’ is the theme of the latest edition of the Local Government Forum’s Newsletter, said Charles Finny, Chair of the Local Government Forum.
“Councils this year face the challenge of budgeting in a recession, no easy task when their role has expanded under legislation with few checks and balances. This edition of the Forum’s Newsletter examines the task of reining in the sector that lies ahead of the new Local Government Minister”, said Mr Finny.
The Newsletter includes articles on refocusing the role of local government; the Beckham fiasco; the Rates Inquiry; local government information; a taskforce on local government policy; council consultation and decision-making; governance; and the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance.
