Young People, Those Who’ve Moved House And Migrants Targeted In Mt Albert By-Election

People who’ve moved in or within the Mt Albert electorate or who weren’t enrolled for last year’s general election need to enrol now for the Saturday 13 June by-election.

“In the five months since the general election there will be thousands of people in the Mt Albert electorate who have become newly eligible to enrol, who have moved house or haven’t enrolled yet,” says Murray Wicks, National Manager, Electoral Enrolment Centre.

“They need to enrol to vote now. Everyone enrolled in the Mt Albert electorate by Monday 11 May, the day the roll used on election day closes, will be sent an EasyVote pack and card that will make voting easier,” says Mr Wicks.

To be eligible to enrol in the Mt Albert electorate you must:

Be 18 years of age or over; and

Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months at some time; and

Have lived in the Mt Albert electorate for one month or more.

“Eligible young people, migrants and people who have moved house or flat in recent months are in our sights to get enrolled or to update their details,” says Mr Wicks.

Currently 91.8 percent of eligible voters in the Mt Albert electorate are enrolled to vote. Of those not enrolled just over 2,800, or 68.2 percent are aged 18-24.

Enrolling is quick and easy. Enrolment forms are available from the elections website www.elections.org.nz, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, from any PostShop or by calling Freephone 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56).

People can update their details by filling in a new enrolment form or going online to www.elections.org.nz.

Only people enrolled on the General electoral roll for the Mt Albert electorate are eligible to vote in the by-election.
