Boot Camp For Young Leaders
Except this program doesn’t cost 35 million dollars
If there was a perfect time for a breath of fresh air from the negative media coverage of New Zealand youth, then it is this coming weekend. There is apparently a lack of high quality role models in New Zealand but there is no shortage of them here at the annual ON THE EDGE young leaders’ conference of 2009.
Taking place from the 1st – 3rd May at Victoria university’s Pipitea campus, the conference is a showcase of youth leadership as well as an enjoyable educational event. OTE aims to develop the leadership capacity of young people and to inspire them to have a passion and purpose in the growth of their schools, communities and New Zealand.
A person is only truly rich
if the ones around them are too.
The conference is
relevant to young people from all cultures and backgrounds.
Secondary students from the wider Wellington region will be
indulged in the inspirational stories of inspirational New
Zealanders and will be involved in creative workshops
designed to equip them with the skills that they need to
make an impact in their own lives and the lives of others.
John Allen (CEO, NZ Post Group) – arguably one of the top ten speakers in New Zealand – will be the key note speaker to open the conference on the Friday evening. Throughout the weekend, Wellington’s young leaders will hear from a number of today’s inspirational figures and will be encouraged to meet and interact with them also.
Notable personalities attending the weekend
include:
Hon Paula Bennett (Minster for Social
Development and Employment); Grant Robertson (Labour MP for
Wellington); Alasdair McLeod (senior partner at Deloitte);
Melissa Clark-Reynolds (leading business woman); Bill
McKibbon (writer, activist, and co-founder of 350.org);
Chris Dodds (author: Silver Linings).

The ON THE EDGE TRUST is a social enterprise that was created by Wellington school leaders in 2003. They were seeking to build the capacity of leadership in Wellington; in their schools and in their communities. OTE is run by youth, for youth.
