To hear or Not to Hear
To hear or Not to Hear
Veteran activist Lisa Prager, an Auckland Mayoral Candidate in 2007 was told by government staff that she would not have an opportunity to speak on the subject of the Supercity at the up and coming Select Committee hearings in Auckland.
“I was very upset” said Ms. Prager. “I have been involved in local government for the last ten years.
I challenged the legality of the Mayoral Coup 2006 which helped get the Royal Commission on Local Governance happening.
I think the government is afraid of what the public really think and what they will be saying to the Select Committee.” said Ms Prager
“When I complained to John Thompson of the Select Committee Office of Parliament and insisted that my request to speak be reconsidered, I was handed to someone further up the food chain. To my surprise and relief my request to speak was reconsidered, but I worry about, how many other ordinary citizens are being refused the opportunity to speak because some beauracrat paid by the government has the power to censor how people express themselves.”
“ I am happy to help anyone who has been refused permission to speak. Appearing before a select committee is not easy and everyone who has bothered to get involved should be heard.”Says Ms Prager
The clerk has now confirmed that Lisa will speak on Tuesday 7th of July at 1.45
