Kimchi, Marmite, what comes next?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 20 JUNE 2009

Kimchi, Marmite, what comes next?

Students, working professionals, teenagers and adults; about 70 Kowis from all walks of life gathered to hear from high flying Kowi’s, and to share their life experience of being a Kowi at the Kimchi and Marmite Conference 2009, at the University of Auckland Business School, hosted by the Kowiana Association of New Zealand.

Kowiana team worked to ensure networking and deep rooted discussions could take place. Some delegates commented that having “such a forum for a discussion on Kowis was great” and that this “discussion group was not interested in lunch” as they became engaged in stimulating discussion, running overtime in their workshops. An intimate atmosphere was created at this year’s conference and touched people on a personal level and Kowiana wishes to explore this further.

Kowiana has many events planned ahead including a public seminar at the end of July 2009 on education and careers for Kowis, this time targeted towards parents as well as young Kowis. Kowiana will be hosting a public seminar with two guests speakers Sarah Soo-Young Lee (Republic of South Korea's Translation Association, the Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification in NZ, and a member of the PR Committee for the Korean Garden Trust.) and Dr Timothy Yoon-Seok Hong (senior scientist at GNS Science in Tau). The free public seminar will be focused on practical ways to inform many Kowi students about the reality of the NZ employment situation.

The Kowiana Association of New Zealand hosts the Kimchi and Marmite conference annually, as part of its objectives to promote education and support for Kowis, and to strengthen multicultural relations.
