Initiated Referendum Result Release Details
The Chief Electoral Officer aims to release the preliminary result of the Citizens Initiated Referendum on the question “Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand?” by 8.30pm on Friday 21 August.
Voting in the referendum closes at 7.00pm on Friday 21 August.
Counting can begin at 7.00pm and is done electronically.
The target for release of the preliminary result is by 8.30pm Friday 21 August.
The result will be available from www.electionresults.govt.nz.
The target to release the final result is by 5.00pm Tuesday 25 August.
