The council is making a contribution to this account.
Mr Brown says his thoughts and those of his councillors are with the families and the people of the nations affected by the earthquake and tsunami in the pacific.
“Pacific people make up a major part of Manukau’s diverse population and I am sure many local residents are worried about their friends and relatives in the affected nations.”
Mr Brown is hopeful that Manukau businesses will come forward and make cash contributions to the relief fund set up.
Manukau City Council is making condolence-books available at its customer centre (Kotuku House), Civic Centre, libraries and Botany Town Centre.
The council will also be organising a remembrance service next week for Manukau residents to offer prayers for the victims of the tragedy.
At this stage, the council is not accepting any in-kind donations.
