Bus users are flocking to community solutions

Bus users are flocking to community solutions to beat the lock out.
"People who use public transport usually rely on it," says Rod Bishop, founder of Jayride, New Zealand's biggest carpool website.
"If the buses are on strike or locked out... Without a car, driving is no option, and Auckland is too spread out for walking or biking," says Mr Bishop, "The public transport-dependent are running low on options here!"
"If buses are unreliable, what we can always rely on is community. Our site has been busy! And we've had word from people hitchhiking from bus stops, or sharing rides with friends and co-workers. This is truly great stuff, and really shows that the Auckland community can stick together and help itself."
Jayride is NZ's biggest transport community website. Jayride is free to join and use, and allows anyone to offer or request a ride, either on a one-off rideshare, or ongoing carpool basis.
The site has seen a large spike in traffic today as visitors have flocked in searching for community-powered transport options with which to beat the bus lock-out. At the time of writing there were still more than 30 carpool routes available on Jayride running concurrently across the Auckland area.
