Infratil/NZ Bus offer meaningless
The Infratil/NZ Bus offer to lift the drivers lockout if unions withdraw notice of strike action is meaningless says the combined bus unions.
Spokesperson Karl Andersen says it is in fact no offer at all as it would simply turn the clock back to last week without dealing with the underlying issue of pay rates for drivers.
“We have always made it clear that we were going to work according to the company’s operations manual – not go on strike,” he says.
“There was never any need to lock the drivers and cause the huge public inconvenience and hardship that has resulted from this. Everybody seems to understand that except Infratil/NZ Bus.
“All the company has to do
is lift its lockout and the buses will be running
again.”
Mr Andersen says the facilitator will be announcing his decision in the morning and an all up meeting of drivers at Alexandra Park at 11am will discuss the ruling.
