Mining Protest at Peninsula
Protest at Peninsula
A noisy group of protesters gave Gerry Brownlee a warm welcome to the Coromandel Peninsula today.
Mr Brownlee was in Thames to consult with Hauraki Iwi.
Coromandel Watchdog spokesperson John Drummond said “We only had a small window of opportunity to make an impression and he saw us and certainly heard us.”
“We wanted to talk to him about honouring the 1997 agreement we had with the National Party that put Coromandel Conservation land under the protection of Schedule 4.”
“95% of MP’s voted for this law change at that time” said Mr Drummond.
