Underage Prostitution – change the signal Prime Minister!

Revelations on National radio today that police have found more than 12 prostitutes between the ages of 13 - 15, have in the past six to eight weeks is not surprising, said Kiwi Party leader Larry Baldock.

"Every sane and sensible citizen knew that making prostitution just another job, as the Prostitution Reform Act 2003 (PRA) did, would lead to more young women ‘having a go!, said Mr Baldock.

"As part of a ministerial review panel in 2006 Gordon Copeland, Marion Hobbs and I saw the underage street workers at Hunter Corner, but the labour government simply made excuses for the consequences of the law they passed.
"John Key and many of the current National government of course were strong opponents of the PRA 2003. He said recently, “The reason I voted against the prostitution law was that I had to look NZ parents in the eye and say what message am I trying to send, and I wasn’t satisfied that the message that said its ok for your kids to be involved in prostitution, or for their children to be involved in prostitution was the right one because I don’t think it is.”

"Prime Minister, knowing that the wrong message was sent back in 2003, are you now prepared to send the right message by repealing the PRA 2003. If not your lack of action sends a very clear message that you do not really stand for anything, but simply say one thing when in opposition and do another when in Government, "said the Kiwi Party Leader.
