Wade-Brown commits to focus on mayoralty
Today, experienced Wellington City Councillor, Celia Wade-Brown, will put in one nomination form only, for the position of Mayor of Wellington.
"This is a very important election for Wellington. The decisions we make in the next three years will shape our city for decades to come, so I've decided to focus exclusively on the mayoral campaign."
“My vision for the city is clear. Good transport choices include more cycling and walking. A light rail system to the airport by 2020 and more comprehensive suburban bus services will reduce congestion so we can maintain efficient access for deliveries, tradespeople and emergency services.”
Celia’s support for Wellington’s “local villages”, their community centres, libraries, speciality shops, heritage buildings, reserves and community gardens, is in harmony with her encouragement for good high-tech developments in the capital, including cleaner fuels, marine research and better broadband access.
Celia Wade-Brown has enjoyed being an effective local Ward Councillor since being elected in 1994. She says that she looks forward to the opportunity to continue to represent the people and neighbourhoods that she loves in the south as Mayor, and intends to do as good a job for the rest of the city.
“After living in Wellington for almost thirty years, I know many people from different parts of the city and really appreciate the variety of communities, architecture, views and microclimates across Wellington. Once elected, we make an oath to serve the whole of the city and I believe my track record in working for people across the city will serve me in good stead in October.”
"Since I announced my campaign I have been encouraged and humbled by the support I've received from across Wellington", says Celia Wade-Brown. "I'm looking forward to Wellingtonians choosing me as their new Mayor.”
