Alliance Party backs workers rallies this weekend
The Alliance Party says all New Zealand workers should support rallies this weekend protesting the National Government's attacks on employment laws.
Alliance employment relations spokesperson Trevor Hanson says it is vital that workers show their support for fairness in the workplace by attending the rallies.
He says the only thing that John Key and the National Government will understand is mass resistance from New Zealanders.
Mr Hanson is former General Secretary of the Maritime Union of New Zealand and Waterfront Workers Union.
He says National's changes will take away workers' rights, remove protections, cut pay, reduce holidays and diminish access to sick leave.
"The working people of New Zealand have suffered badly from the labour market deregulation of the last twenty five years. We cannot allow things to get any worse."
Mr Hanson says the effect of National's employment law changes will have bad results for employees if they are allowed to proceed.
He says it is urgent that all New Zealand workers stand up for their hard won rights at work.
