Shore Voice praises win for Beach
Haven
The retention of the former Beach
Haven Post Office in public ownership has been welcomed by
those who have fought for its protection for many
years.
Shore Voice spokeswoman and current chair of the Birkenhead-Northcote Community Board, Jennifer Yorke, says she’s delighted to have confirmation that the property has been bought by the North Shore City Council just weeks before it too closes for business.
The acquisition of the old post office was the community board’s top priority, says Yorke who has chaired the board for the past six years and is standing for the new Kaipatiki Local Board on the Shore Voice ticket.
“Ever since the Post Office closed 20 years ago, Beach Haven residents have constantly asked the council to buy the site to enhance their village.
“Earlier this year our community board initiated a ‘place-making’ project which led to the formation of ‘Heart of Beach Haven’, our initiative to create a village environment for residents to enjoy,” says Jennifer Yorke.
