Leading by example; open door to remain if elected mayor
Aldo Miccio says he will keep his door open
to the public and continue to post regular Facebook updates
if he is elected mayor.
Miccio says that the Nelson City Council has suffered a lot of criticism over the past three years for being closed and secretive. He says his Friday sessions with ratepayers this year, and the comments shared with the public on Facebook, have been extremely valuable.
“I think it is important that this next council undergoes a cultural shift towards being more open to the public,” Miccio says. “We need to regain the public’s trust and rebuild a positive relationship with Nelson.
“I would like to lead by example as mayor, and keep my door open and online dialogue going,” he says. “Once the new council is elected, if I am elected mayor, I also plan to meet with all councillors individually before bringing the new team together to discuss the delegations and rules of engagement with council staff, the changes needed to how we undertake official council business, such as the committee and workshop structure, and how we should consult with the public on policy.”
