Derogatory racial remarks are unacceptable

The Waitakere Ethnic Board is extremely concerned and offended by the continuation of racially driven remarks made by TVNZ Breakfast host Paul Henry. Most recently Mr Henry has made comments questioning the sense of belonging of the Governor General, Anand Satyanand due to the colour of his skin. Mr Henry has also made offensive remarks about Sheila Dikshit’s (Commonwealth Games troubleshooter) surname with great insensitivity.

Waitakere Ethnic Board believes that racism has no place in New Zealand and TVNZ need to take a stronger stance towards the continuation of such demeaning remarks by their anchor. Our airwaves can not be left vulnerable in the hands of people causing racial disharmony. Waitakere Ethnic Board calls for TVNZ to take further action.

Amail Habib, President of Waitakere Ethnic Board has discussed this issue with a number of different ethnic groups and a large number have decided to boycott the Breakfast Show if Paul Henry continues to be the host.
