Visionnetwork changes name

Visionnetwork changes name

Visionnetwork has changed its name, and from now on will be known as New Zealand Christian Network.

New Zealand Christian Network’s origins go back to the Evangelical Fellowship of New Zealand in the 1980s and Vision NZ in the 1990s.

Vision NZ organised three national congresses – in 1993, 1997 and 1999 – before being restructured as Vision Network NZ following a 2001 meeting of 70 leaders in Palmerston North. Vision Network NZ was launched in September 2002, and was recognised as part of the World Evangelical Alliance the same year.

National Director Glyn Carpenter said the name has been a topic of discussion for several years because of its similarity to other names, and the fact that Vision Network NZ didn’t clearly identify the organisation as Christian.

‘In 2007, we polled denomination leaders and other Vision Network members and found that the name New Zealand Christian Network most clearly identified what we were and was acceptable to most people.

‘From the 2008 AGM, we started using the new name in conjunction with our old one, but have now filed the necessary legal documents to make the transition.

‘We are very pleased with the name change.’

New Zealand Christian Network is dedicated to gather Christians to share topics of interest and concern; build networks to bring Christians together; and speak with and listen to the Church and the wider community.

It seeks to promote the unity and mission of the whole Church, and reflect the common views held by the 500,000 New Zealand Christians who describe themselves as biblically orthodox or evangelical.

Networks include 23 groups and task forces that address areas of concern across communities, including cross-cultural mission, conflict resolution, disabilities, education, and social justice.

NZ Christian Network is a broad-spectrum network of churches and Christian leaders, and its board of reference includes leaders from all the main denominations.
