Media Release By Johny O'Donnell-Students Against Violence Everywhere

Rally Beginning of the End of Inner-City Violence

Nelsons first major anti- violence rally is aimed at sparking the beginning of the end to inner-city violence in Nelson says spokesperson Johny O'Donnell.

The rally organised by SAVE and sponsored by The Edge Nelson features a mixture of draw cards aimed at pulling a diverse crowd of Nelsonians committed to pledging to make our city free from violence.

Nelsons new Mayor Aldo Miccio has agreed to address the crowd alongside NMIT Students Association President Rachel Boyack-Mayer, Q-Youth Chairwoman Tabitha Besley and Multi-Sport Legend Nathan Fa'avae. Students from Victory Primary Schools kapa haka group will open the rally.

A free barbeque will be provided as well as entertainment from Harmony Aquarian. Reported incidents of public violence have risen by 56% since July and local media has been dominated by news of three serious incidents over recent weeks.

One News are covering the event while the TVNZ 6 crew will be filming the event as part of the Volunteer Power series hosted by Jim Mora who will also attend the event.

Nelsonians are being urged to take action on this serious issue.
