More Help from Hutt City Council on its Way to Christchurch
Buildings officers are the latest contribution from Hutt City Council in response to the Christchurch earthquake.
Four officers are driving down to Christchurch today to help assess the safety of buildings in the city.
Mayor Ray Wallace says the building officers will join several other council staff already in Christchurch assisting with the emergency response and managing welfare operations.
“We responded immediately sending two emergency response teams from the Hutt Valley Emergency Management Office to Christchurch on the day after the quake, and I am pleased we now have additional Council staff on the way to help.”
In Wellington, members of the Hutt Valley Emergency Management Office are continuing to work at the National Crisis Management Centre at the Beehive, while last week staff assisted at Wellington airport receiving tourist evacuees from Christchurch.
Council has also provided a list of additional staff to the National Crisis Management Centre who are available for deployment to Christchurch if required. These include emergency management, building officers, roading specialists, engineers, water management staff and environmental health officers
Residents looking to help those affected by the Christchurch earthquake can find all the information they need on Hutt City Council’s website, www.huttcity.govt.nz/christchurch.
