Game Animal Council Great News for Pig Hunters
“The announcement today that a Game Animal Council will be established is great news for Pig Hunters said Warren Peterson President of the New Zealand Pig Hunting Association.
Wild pigs have been part of the New Zealand landscape since the first Europeans arrived in New Zealand. There are more than 25,000 pig hunters in New Zealand and they play an important role in providing food for their families and managing the numbers of wild pigs on both public and private land.
“Being part of a separate statutory organisation that has a single focus of managing hunters and game animals for both recreation and conservation will give pig hunters the voice and input into the management of pigs that has hitherto been absent” said Warren Petersen
The New Zealand Pig Hunting Association is the collective voice for the many pig hunting clubs and groups throughout New Zealand. Pig Hunting clubs as with most volunteer organisations have limited resources and a game Council will provide much needed expertise and assistance with many of the regulatory and other issues they face
“We commend both the Minister of Conservation Hon Kate Wilkinson and the Hon Peter Dunne Leader of United Future for this most important initiative and look forward to working with all interests to see a better managed pig hunting resource for the benefit of all New Zealanders” said Warren Petersen
