ALCP: Medicinal cannabis industry will boost economy
Calls to develop a medicinal cannabis industry are being applauded by the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party (ALCP).
Massey University horticulturalist Mike Nicholls told TV One that a Medicinal Cannabis industry could return billions of dollars annually.
ALCP secretary Irinka Britnell welcomed the proposal.
“It is just what is needed to boost New Zealand’s failing economy,” she said.
The proposal comes on the same day that medicinal cannabis user Peter Davy faced jail for growing cannabis.
He may yet avoid a proposed hunger-strike as his case was adjourned to June 22 and he is now being considered for home detention.
ALCP policy supports the development of a three level cannabis industry.
An R18 recreational industry with "Daktory" style cannabis cafes, a medicinal cannabis industry providing relief for many ailments including cancer and an industrial hemp industry providing sustainable food, fuel and fabric.
“Each of these three cannabis related industries is capable of generating billions of dollars annually while enforcement of cannabis prohibition currently costs the government $500 million annually,” Ms Britnell said.
“This incredibly versatile plant will deliver the triple bottom line requirements for successful industry.”
“Cannabis has the capacity to save our economy, only ignorance can get in the way of progress.”
