The Working Women's Resource Centre welcomes Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty's private members bill
The Working Women's Resource Centre welcomes Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty's private members bill. We women have fought for many years to gain pay equity, i.e. equal pay for work of equal value.
That a gender pay gap still exists in New Zealand is an indictment on our society.
In a workplace or sector where men and women do similar tasks, women need to know whether they are being discriminated against in the matter of what is paid to whom for doing work of equal value. This information is often hidden from view and unless it can be seen and measured it cannot be managed and remedied.
This bill, should it become enacted, will go a long way to rectify this.
Working women need the issue of pay equity to be kept high on the Government's agenda, and this bill will once again bring it to prominence.
