High Polling Tauranga Councillor heading back to Parliament

Popular Tauranga City Councillor and Waterfront Taskforce Chairman Larry Baldock has been named the Conservative Party candidate for Tauranga. At number three on the party list, and with party leader Colin Craig likely to win his seat, Baldock looks to be heading back to Parliament.

The Conservative Party, who was included for the first time in a Horizon poll last week, has started with over 2.2% support, above United Future, the Maori Party, Progressive, and New Citizens.

Previously in Parliament with United Future, Mr Baldock was known for raising local issues more than any other member.

“I became a second, de facto MP for Tauranga, and was able to use my leverage in Wellington to push local issues in Parliament “ says Larry.

Among his victories, Baldock battled for the government to look at Tauranga’s increasing traffic congestion, with a special roading grant of $150 million being the result.

“The PSA kiwifruit virus and the Rena oil spill have highlighted the need for better leadership and crisis management” says Baldock, “Tauranga deserves better.”

Baldock urges the people of Tauranga to give the Conservative Party their vote and “get two MPs working on your behalf in Wellington.”

The Conservative Party list will be announced in full next week.
