New Economics Party candidate for Wellington Central

Media Statement 3 Nov 2011

Laurence Boomert, 49, will stand for Wellington Central as a candidate for a new political party – the New Economics Party.

Boomert was born and raised in Wellington but currently lives in Golden Bay.

During the 1990s he was this country’s leading green business proponent establishing what became the Sustainable Business Network.

He currently runs the Bank of Real Solutions a website of community can-do success stories and is a trustee of Living Economies an educational trust dedicated to bringing forward sustainable economic systems. He is a father of three daughters.

“I am standing because we have a rotten money system destroying the planet and I want a future for my kids. We have started a party which faces up to the hard problems – depleting resources, climate change and economic turmoil – and develops realistic policies for the 21st century.”

He said the idea for the party arose only two months ago so the party isn’t yet registered, although recognised with the Electoral Office.
