National well ahead of ACT in Epsom

The latest ONE News Colmar Brunton poll shows National has a big lead in the Epsom electorate despite the Prime Minister’s signal for National voters to give their electorate vote to ACT.

“All the agony for John Key over his cup of tea chat with John Banks appears to have been for nothing, Epsom voters are ignoring his signal to keep ACT in Parliament by voting for Mr Banks instead of the National candidate”, says TVNZ’s political editor, Guyon Espiner.

“The poll of 517 eligible Epsom voters conducted this week shows Paul Goldsmith has 41% support, John Banks is well behind on 30%, Labour’s David Parker is a distant third (17%) and the Green candidate, David Hay is on 11%.

“We asked 1,006 eligible voters across the country what they thought of the attempted persuasion, the majority opposed it.

“Only 29% agreed with National asking its supporters to give their electorate vote to John Banks, 55% opposed it and the remainder were undecided”

The poll results above have a margin of error of +/- 4.4%. Interviewing of 517 eligible voters in Epsom took place from 14th – 17th November 2011. The data has been weighted to Dept of Statistics Population Estimates to ensure it is representative of the population in terms of age and gender, allowing for household size. Sub-area strata weights were also applied.
