Conservatives Save
Best till last
Already being acknowledged by media as this elections dark horse, the Conservatives, who no one expected to get close to being in Parliament, are already threatening the 5% threshold, with a quarter of their campaign to go.
“We’re running a carefully planned campaign, which will see the majority of our effort and spend taking place in this final week,” says Party Leader Colin Craig.
“It’s turning out to be a similar campaign to the Auckland Mayoralty, which involved a third of New Zealand voters. I went from polling 0.6% one week out, to winning nearly 9% of the actual vote” he says.
“The reality is that the only poll that matters is the one on election day, and that’s the one we’re targeting."
Having gone relatively unnoticed until now, the Conservatives have been quietly gaining support from voters across the country.
“We now have over two thousand paid up members, more than most other minor parties,” says Mr Craig.
It’s been a remarkable rise for the newest party on the block, who only announced their intention to form in August.
“Two weeks after announcing we had more than 500 members signed up. We officially registered with the electoral commission on October 6th, and have since then fielded 52 candidates across the country, and showed on all major political polls.”
The Conservative Party continues its upwards trend in the polls with today's Horizon poll having them with 4.7% of the vote, tantalizingly close to the 5% threshold.
