Rally to Save Our Ports

Rally to Save Our Ports
Saturday 10 March, 4pm - Britomart
Join port workers and their families, unions and community groups to rally to Save Our Port and stand up for job security for the port workers and their families and for a publically owned, sustainable and successful port.
There will be speeches from port workers, community leaders, international union supporters, and others as well as entertainment and food at Teal Park to follow.
Over 300 workers and their families will be rallying for job security for them and their families. The workers are facing an uncertain future after announcements by Ports of Auckland today that they intend dismissing over 300 port workers and proceed with contracting out their jobs.
These workers are currently undertaking industrial action in response to the ‘take it or leave it’ tactics from the Port’s management – the Ports have now taken this a step further with the announcement of redundancies. Contracting the work out means less job security for port workers and their families, fierce competition on wages and conditions, and less safety for port workers.
