National's Hamilton MPs to feel heat on Asset Sales
National's Hamilton MPs to feel heat on Asset Sales.
Mighty River People's Power are to protest at the office of
the Hamilton East MP David Bennett tomorrow (Friday).
The lunchtime protest will call on the Hamilton East and West MPs to oppose the government's proposed asset sales. The key messages for the protest are 'Will David Bin It?' and 'Tim McIndon't!'.
Mighty River People Power is a Hamilton based group set up to support the Waikato leg of a hikoi against asset sales that begins next week.
'The hikoi arrives in Huntly next Saturday', says spokesperson Jamie Rolleston. 'Major hui are happening at Garden Place and at Karapiro on Sunday the 29th.'
As National won only 47% of the vote in 2011, Mighty River People's Power says they have no mandate to sell publicly owned assets.
'Mighty River People's Power challenge these two local MPs to a public forum to debate the sales,' says Ms Rolleston. 'This Waikato is the heart of Mighty River Power, where the first round of dam sales are planned. Tim McIndoe and David Bennett owe us this much - one public showing on the issue.'
