City councils' excellence in social and affordable housing
City councils make their mark at biannual Awards event for professional excellence in social and affordable housing
The work undertaken by the social and community housing teams at Wellington and Christchurch city councils was celebrated at the Australasian Housing Institute’s Awards ceremony for 2011-2012 held in Wellington last week.
Housing initiatives supported by Wellington City Council collected four of the six awards presented at the Australasian Housing Institute event.
The group manager of Wellington City Council’s City Housing team, Vicki McLaren won the award for Inspirational Colleague for her relentless passion in areas such as the Tenant Support Programme which she initiated. On behalf of the Council’s Housing Upgrade Project Vicki also accepted the award won for Leading Housing Solution.
The award for Leading Innovation was accepted on behalf of Wellington City Council’s Community Action Programme by community action and engagement manager Rosie Gallen, and the Wellington Association of City Housing Artists won the award for Tenant-Led Initiative.
Christchurch City Council’s city housing and community facilities manager Kevin Bennett accepted the award for Outstanding Achievement, along with Housing New Zealand’s Christchurch housing services manager Jeanette Gower, for the over the odds work done by their respective teams to ensure no tenant was left un-housed during the relentless aftermath of the Canterbury earthquakes.
All award winners now go into running for supreme awards across all Australian states and New Zealand which will be judged on and presented later this year.
