Prayers at Work and Public Places
Prayers at Work and Public Places
Colin Craig is not surprised questions are being asked today about a five year old employment dispute he had with a former employee.
"It is the only employment dispute I've had in 21 years of business" he said.
"Everything is under scrutiny at the moment and that's a good thing" says Mr Craig.
"The employee made various claims, including saying she was forced to attend prayer meetings, and that being short was a result of sin"
"We have weekly team meetings, which are usually closed with a short prayer, shorter than the prayer they say to open Parliament" says Mr Craig.
"As for being short that's obviously a result of genetics. If I had anything against short people I'd be in trouble with my wife who isn't especially tall."
"Various staff run our team meetings, and they can include discussions about business principles for success. We rely on a variety of sources for information on business principles, the bible and other wisdom literature included."
"As an example, once we talked about Zacchaeus who was a short man, unable to see through a crowd. He resolved that problem by using his initiative and climbing a tree. The principle is finding creative solutions to solve a problem- something that helps us succeed in business. I'm a great believer in people talking responsibility, and finding creative solutions for life's challenges.”
"I realise some people see a prayer as controversial, but I’m really relaxed about it. I’m happy to release the ERA decision if it’s in the public interest”.
"We were happy with the ERA decision, which found these and other allegations were unfounded."
"The majority of New Zealanders do have a faith of some kind. For those who don’t have a faith they can rest assured that I believe in freedom of religion and freedom of speech, and will defend absolutely their right to choose their own beliefs"
