Urgent Action Needed
The Conservative Party is calling for urgent changes to the current bail laws after suppressions on other charges relating to the murder of Auckland teenager Christie Marceau were lifted this morning.
“A hobbit law can get through in under a week. Why can’t bail laws be afforded the same priority?”asks Party Leader Colin Craig.
“Charges of kidnapping, sexual assault with intent to commit sexual violation, and threatening to cause grievous bodily harm are very serious. To think someone charged with these offences can be let back out into the community (down the road from the victim no less) against the police’s recommendation, defies common sense."
“Law and order has to return to a focus on protecting the good citizens of our country. The safety of our community needs to come ahead of the rights of an individual who represents a real risk to the community,” Mr Craig says.
