Strategic Review Announcement
There has been the
announcement today on the Strategic review with the Minister
of Labour giving details of the membership and terms of
reference
New Zealand’s workplace death and injury rates are not improving and are poor in comparison to countries like Australia and the United Kingdom. The Government is serious about taking action as it’s unacceptable that so many New Zealanders are being killed or seriously injured at work,” Ms Wilkinson says.
The Independent Taskforce will review whether the overall workplace health and safety system - including legislation, regulation, incentives and enforcement – is working effectively to reduce workplace injury and death.
It will provide recommendations to the Government by the end of the year on a package of practical measures that will help reduce the rate of fatalities and serious injuries in the workplace by at least 25 percent by 2020.
There will be public consultation as part of the review.
NZISM will be asking
for your comments on this and it is important everyone is
aware.
