Maori Party Supports Larger Class Sizes
7th June
“Who is Pem Bird speaking on behalf of
when he says that he doesn’t think increased class sizes
will disadvantage Maori students?” says MANA President
Annette Sykes.
“I haven’t heard one Maori say that increased class sizes are good for Maori students, the bulk of whom will be affected under National’s plans because they are taught in mainstream classes”.
“Pem was speaking as the Chair of Kura-a-Iwi. Pem should have been honest and said he was speaking as the President of the Maori Party”.
“Obviously the Maori Party support larger class sizes. This is further confirmation that the Maori Party are now simply the translation service for the National Party. If I was a member of Kura-a-Iwi, I would be asking for his resignation effective immediately, as his views do not represent the people he represents”.
