Appointments to new Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
The Acting Chief Executive of the new Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, David Smol, has appointed the acting senior leadership team who will lead the Ministry from 1 July.
The new Ministry (MBIE) is being formed from the merger of the Department of Building and Housing, the Department of Labour, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
On 1 July MBIE will be a ‘federation’ of the four existing agencies, with an Acting CE and Senior Leadership Team. A detailed organisational design and implementation plan for the new Ministry will be developed by 30 September following consultation with staff.
David Smol says the Acting Senior Leadership Team will have a pivotal role in building the new Ministry as well as ensuring that high quality service delivery is maintained during the establishment period.

appointments have been made:
• Murray Bain (currently
Chief Executive, Ministry of Science and Innovation) will be
the Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Science and
Innovation
• Nigel Bickle (currently
Acting Chief Executive, Department of Labour) will be the
Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Building and Housing

Rebecca Boyack (currently Deputy Chief
Executive Corporate Services, Ministry of Science and
Innovation) will be the Acting Deputy Chief Executive,
Corporate Services
• Liz MacPherson
(currently Acting Chief Executive, Ministry of
Economic Development) will be the Acting Deputy Chief
Executive, Labour
• Greg Patchell
(currently Deputy Secretary Commercial Solutions, Ministry
of Economic Development) will be the Acting Deputy Chief
Executive, Economic Development.
