MEDIA RELEASE, 07 June 2012

It’s time for Doing REAL Good in New Zealand

SOCANZ 2012, the Doing REAL Good Conference, is being held in New Zealand inspired by the Social Capital Markets Conference in San Francisco. Conference organisers, The Social Innovation Group and event manager GROW, are delighted with the strong support from across the sectors of our society to engage in new conversations about new ways of doing real good in NZ.

Doing Real Good is a conference designed to bring together New Zealanders interested in working with others, from outside our usual communities, to think together about how we will create the community that we want to live in” says Social Innovation Group’s Vivien Maidaborn.

“More and more people want to create a society that uses the best of business and community thinking, the best of government resources and frameworks and the best of the market to leverage to the best for every NZ citizen. Our conference will explore new ways of thinking and working together to create better lives for all New Zealanders” says Ms Maidaborn

SOCANZ has created this conference to create momentum in the growth of the social innovation ecosystem in NZ; from financial investment to enterprise and measuring social impact.

“This conference will combine key note sessions made up from three pithy crisp talks from exciting leading edge thinkers, followed by an interactive panel that will allow us all to get a close up feel for the way people from different sectors approach the strategic issues of our time”, says Ms Maidaborn

Across the 2 days every participant will have an opportunity to attend up to four workshops where they can create a focussed and deep experience by attending all the workshops in one track or a broad and diverse experience by hopping across the tracks.

Ms Maidaborn wanted something that would work cross sectors. “Too often a conference is attended by only one sector. But the future of New Zealand touches us all, so we have created a programme that is appealing to all sectors. We have invited people from across capital, philanthropy, community, corporate, education, government, SME’s, and local government sectors. It is all very exciting!“

Event manager Shaun Lines is hoping that people will add value to their thinking about how they do Real Good in their own area of interest.

“We expect organisations and individuals exploring Social Entrepreneurship, those working in economic development, businesses looking at new opportunities and working models and concerned citizens who share a passion for building a great community where they live will be particularly excited to see the Doing Real Good conference here in NZ” Mr Lines added.

“We are thrilled to have secured Nic Frances, who is a frequent speaker on prestigious international platforms. UK based kiwi Katherine Corich’s passion for business dared her to grow a small team into a global enterprise. Her ‘can do it’ pioneering spirit drives Sysdoc to take on projects and deliver solutions which the industry has not dreamed possible. Wayne Mulligan specialises in systems thinking and he has authored 30 business case studies on Maori organisations and a report on key Maori business characteristics. And the list goes on” says Mr Lines.
