Job Streams Package Needs Scale as well as Flexibility
CTU agrees that there is a need for flexibility in the subsidies provided to match employers with unemployed workers, but is concerned that such initiatives need to be scaled up rather than just repackaged.
The Government has announced today a job streams package that adapts the existing Job Ops and Straight to Work into two streams.
CTU Secretary Peter Conway says “it is very important that the government continues to offer effective support to match unemployed workers with employers, but we are concerned that given high unemployment and also government plans to drastically increase the number of beneficiaries that will be required to seek paid work that such schemes need to be on a much bigger scale.”
