"Let the Truth Be Known": New Zealand Whistleblowers

News items that highlight companies providing whistle-blowing channels for employees, clients or
stakeholders is both laudable and long overdue. Most employees, particularly in an adverse economic climate, have been loathe to risk their livelihood by speaking out, even when the organisation for which they work would benefit from their observations or insights. Others with non-leadership interests in such organisations are also aware of risk to their positions, especially if the nature of concern is factual, ethical and/or legal.

There are several obvious problems with such channels being in-house. Chief among these is a
built-in bias towards the company on the part of employees in departments, to which such provisions have been assigned (ie, human resources or legal departments). Few organizations have departments willing to challenge what they perceive as the employer's best interests, even in the face of legal requirements or factual evidence. The only sensible way to approach these issues is through a third-party accountability assurance service.

Enter New Zealand Whistleblowers (http://www.whistleblowers.co.nz), a division of International Whistleblowers. Taking experience from its international activities, NZWB's primary mission is to ensure that communications between New Zealanders and their organisations are effective. Its scope is not limited to whistle-blowing; other communications, such as suggestions for improvements, trouble-shooting and business relations are also part of NZWB's services.

The key is confidentiality. Concerned parties whose organisations are clients of NZWB can anonymously file their issue with NZWB, who then present the issue/ information to the member organisation. The organisation is able to take the information, investigate the claims, and take any steps necessary or preferred in order to reach solutions, meet legal requirements, or simply improve the organisation's function.

An organisation benefits from actionable information, not from the intimidation or embarrassment of those who have some interest in the organisation whether employees, or shareholders.
New Zealand Whistleblowers is a service that any organisation can employ to ensure its well-being as well as legal compliance.

A New Zealand hotline 06-2802921 is available for those individuals who are not part of an NZWB employer /employee Third Party Service contract. "Let the truth be known."######
