Roundtable on Violence Against Women supports call for inquiry into Domestic Violence
The Roundtable supports Owen Glenn’s call for inquiry into why Domestic Violence and Child Abuse continues unabated at epidemic levels, despite extensive reviews, reports and recommendations to successive governments.
Domestic violence continues to be major issue in New Zealand with no evidence that it is improving. An inquiry is needed to provide real clarity and leadership on this issue. Domestic violence is an issue this Government has done little to address and action is needed.
New Zealand presents at CEDAW on Thursday, where New Zealand will report the poor progress we making in addressing violence against women – including domestic violence.
If this Government has reducing family violence as a priority they must accept Owen Glenn's offer and launch a full Commission of Inquiry.
