Law Society welcomes Solicitor-General appointment
The New Zealand Law Society has welcomed the appointment of Michael Heron as Solicitor-General.
Law Society President Jonathan Temm said Mr Heron was well known and highly regarded in the New Zealand legal profession.
“Mr Heron has extensive experience in many areas of legal practice and litigation. This includes work as a Crown prosecutor and involvement with delivering advice to government agencies. His wide-ranging experience as both trial lawyer and legal adviser means lawyers will be confident he has the depth of knowledge and understanding needed as Solicitor-General,” he said.
Mr Temm said Mr Heron’s long involvement work for the Law Society and the community was also highly valued.
“He is currently on the Council of the Law Society’s Auckland branch and has contributed much to the Law Society and New Zealand legal profession. As chair of Drug Free New Zealand, he has also given much time and expertise to working in a field which is very important for all New Zealanders,” he said.
“His appointment comes at a time of change in the role of Solicitor-General and the Crown Law Office generally. We wish him well in meeting the challenges ahead.”
