Prince Charles to Celebrate Birthday with New Zealanders

21 September 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince Charles to Celebrate Birthday with New Zealanders

Monarchy New Zealand welcomes the announcement that New Zealanders will be joining Prince Charles in the celebration of his birthday.

Prince Charles will be celebrating his 64th birthday in New Zealand on 14 November, which is, coincidentally, also the birthday of the Queen’s representative, Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae. To mark the occasion, Government House is hosting a celebration. Kiwis who share their birthday with Prince Charles and Sir Jerry are encouraged to apply for an invitation. Sixty-four applicants from across New Zealand will be chosen by ballot.

Dr Sean Palmer, Chair of Monarchy New Zealand, said “This is a great opportunity for New Zealanders from many different backgrounds across the country to engage with Prince Charles. I’m sure his lifetime of fascinating experiences, his extensive travels, and his many meetings with world leaders will make for some great conversations.”

The birthday celebration is just one small part of the royal tour. “This trip is going to further enhance the close relationship Prince Charles already has with New Zealand. He maintains close contact with many New Zealand individuals and organisations including charities, industries, and the military,” says Dr Palmer. “For many years he has been espousing principles that resonate well with this country. His commitment to the environment and to conservation, his passion for youth development, and his belief in multiculturalism are all causes close to the hearts of many New Zealanders.”
