Jigsaw Conference Focus for White Paper Launch

Child abuse prevention network Jigsaw says the time has come for a new approach to reduce child abuse and neglect. Jigsaw’s national conference, being held at Te Papa on 10-12th October, is exploring fresh thinking to help all children and families thrive and flourish.

So it is fitting that the Government’s White Paper on Vulnerable Children is being launched by Minister for Social Development Paula Bennett at our conference.

Jigsaw, through its network of more than 40 social service providers working on the front line to improve the lives of children, has fed in ideas and submissions through the Green Paper consultation process.

The White Paper on Vulnerable Children is the Government’s response and we are eager to hear the promised comprehensive solutions to complex problems.

Jigsaw Chief Executive (Strategic Relationships) Tau Huirama says now is the time for change. “Jigsaw is exploring ways to break out of tired old thinking and to encourage our organisations to try something new to support our most vulnerable children.”

“We await the White Paper with keen interest,” Tau says. “It will be the topic that permeates through our conference as we strive to come up with better ways to work together so that all children are nurtured and cared for.”

Key speakers include:
- Murray Edridge FACS
- Darrin Haimona - Te Hauora o Ngati Haua Trust
- Dr Fiona Cram, Director of Katoa Ltd, a Kaupapa Maori research and evaluation company
- Dr Airini – Head of University of Auckland’s School of Critical Studies in Education
- Judy Bailey – child advocate and Jigsaw patron
