The Bill has passed; Let’s Continue the Fight

Queer Avenger’s Press Release: The Bill has passed; Let’s Continue the Fight for The Other Issues.

Queer Avenger’s are pleased the Marriage Equality (Marriage Amendment) Bill has passed, and say “well done to everyone involved”.

“Now it is time to focus on the bigger issues” says Kassie Hartendorp, member of QA. “Marriage Equality is all well and good, but it is not going to end the violence and hatred that many in our communities experience, any time soon.” she says.

There is much more to be done.

Queer Avenger Kay states “I think it's great that young queer and trans people will be able to grow up with the same choices for celebrating their relationships as their straight and cisgender friends, but first they have to survive till adulthood. Sadly for some young people bullying and depression mean they don't make it. We need to make schools and society safe and supportive for all young people, but particularly for those from sexual minorities.” She goes on to say “As a mother I'm concerned about homophobic, transphobic and biphobic bullying in schools and the pressures young people face to conform to gendered stereotypes. This can limit everyone's ability to grow up to be the best they can be, regardless of who they are. “

Queer Avengers have and will continue to fight for the rights of ALL LGBQTTI in all aspects; It is about being able to be who you are, live your way without fear of being made to feel ‘other’ or ‘different’ and attacked because of it.
