Nelson Energy Team goes national
Nelson Energy Team goes national.
The Nelson Energy Team Trust has changed its name to the Kiwi Energy Trust in a response to nationwide support. The trust was formed last month and has been pleasantly surprised by the amount of people signing up as interested parties from outside the local area. This has encouraged trustees to switch from a predominately Nelson based focus to a national focus.
Chairman of the trust, Nelson Mayor, Aldo Miccio maintains that the success of the scheme has always been based on the power of numbers and because of the support from outside the region the trust has been encouraged to cast a wider net. He says, “we are currently in discussions with Local Government New Zealand on how they can best help to facilitate and support promotion of the scheme to ratepayers and residents, helping us achieve our aim of a collective negotiating scheme, ensuring cheaper power prices and a fuel poverty fund for all of New Zealand.”
The trust will also commence discussions with the New Zealand Grey Power Federation about the possibility of forming a national alliance with them. Trustee, Neville Male, president of Nelson Grey Power reiterates that the concept of a fuel poverty fund to assist persons in dire circumstances that cannot pay their power bills has received very positive feedback from the local community and expected this to be a great incentive nationwide. He says “I will be raising the Kiwi Energy Trust’s initiative at the national Grey Power conference in Auckland next month and will be inviting all branches to join the crusade!”
Interested parties from all over the country can register their interest in joining the scheme on the trust’s website www.kiwienergytrust.org.nz. There is no commitment to opt in until after the trust has negotiated group power rates with New Zealand energy suppliers, at this stage consumers would be able to test their power usage and current rates against the secured collective rates.
