Rob Messenger to remember ANZAC day at Howard and Hervey Bay
24th April 2013
Messenger to remember ANZAC day at Howard and Hervey Bay with the founder of a young diggers’ & veterans’ retreat
Former State Member of Parliament, and RAAF serviceman Rob Messenger will accompany Vietnam Vet Roger Dwyer tomorrow and attend ANZAC services at Howard (dawn) and Hervey Bay.
“Roger and I struck up a friendship during his battle with the government – while trying to establish a Veteran’s and Young Digger’s camping and fishing retreat near the mouth of the Gregory and Burrum rivers:
"And if there’s couple of things I’ve learnt from Vets like Roger Dwyer - apart from Perseverance, is to honor the dead and fight like hell for the living.
"This ANZAC day while I’ll pay my respects to those who’ve sacrificed all, for our democratic freedoms - I’ll also be keen to make sure that our surviving diggers from all conflicts, and their families - are properly looked after.
"If our country neglects the people who were prepared to put their lives on the line to protect us - all the fine words that, politicians and those who control government resources in particular, say on ANZAC Day will ring hollow and meaningless.
"Lest we forget," said Mr. Messenger.
