Aotearoa is Not for Sale protests today

Power to the People - Aotearoa is Not for Sale protests today

As part of a national day of against asset sales and privatisation there will be nine protests around the country this weekend organised by the Aotearoa is Not for Sale coalition. Backed by the trade union movement, Labour Party, New Zealand First, MANA and community groups today's protests will take place in Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Napier, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

"We know the majority of New Zealanders are opposed to our power companies being sold off. Today's protests will rally the resistance to the National Government and unite thousands of people across the country who are angry over issues like charter schools, public service cuts and unemployment," said Aotearoa is Not for Sale spokesperson Joe Carolan.

"Millions of people feel ignored by the National Government and are worried that with power company privatisations their power bills will keep rising. Today's protests will show them that they are not alone. Across this country people are worried about the asset sales and prepared to fight the government," continued Mr. Carolan.

"Our message to John Key today from the streets of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and elsewhere is to stop the madness and end the asset sales. And our message to New Zealand is that people have the power to make sure Aotearoa is not sold out by the National Government," concluded Mr. Carolan.
