EthnicA Conference Wellington a passionate affair

EthnicA Conference Wellington a passionate affair

Excitement is building in the local community with the third EthnicA conference in Wellington taking place on Saturday 11 May 2013. EthnicA is an annual conference where local audiences engage in cutting edge debate on aspects of leadership and diversity. The overall theme for 2013 is ‘Leading with Passion’.

One of the highlights of the conference is an interactive workshop by social media expert Eva-Maria. Her session ‘How Obama won using digital and social media’ offers people insight into something they never believe when she tells them - being able to achieve social media success in just five to 10 minutes a day.

‘Many don't believe this statistic at all,’ says Eva-Maria, owner of SocialeMedia. ‘But it's possible and I'm going to tell the audience exactly how to achieve it.’

Other sessions like ‘Spotlight on the coolest capital in the world’ with Wellington City Council Deputy Mayor, Ian McKinnon, offers value for anyone with an interest in diversity issues in the Wellington region.

Office of Ethnic Affairs Director Mervin Singham says he expects this particular conference to be a highlight on the city’s calendar.

‘With successful conferences in Auckland and Christchurch, this event provides emphasis on how Wellington audiences can be inspired by their own examples of leadership, passion and achievement.’

‘As New Zealand society changes and becomes more diverse, it is critical for leaders in ethnic communities to play a more active role - and shaping the New Zealand of tomorrow often starts from our capital.’
