Krum Promises Energy and a Contest of Ideas
Maungakiekie/Tamaki voters will witness a contest in every street and every neighbourhood based on a new style of leadership this year, according to Auckland Council C&R candidate Denise Krum.
The Ellerslie resident, mother of two, is a community activist, Chair of Ellerslie School board and Parenting Place trustee. She will challenge the present councillor for the Maungakiekie/Tamaki seat.
“This community is my home, and our family is proud to call it a great place to live, work and play. But we cannot just sit by and watch the current civic leadership team casually wave through a Unitary Plan that promises jam/ packed apartments, and the destruction of our community’s character without local input.” At a recent public meeting, 350 plus Onehunga residents turned up to express their opinion on the Unitary plan.
“Local residents have told me that they do not want 3 to 6 storey apartments in their community. Long/time sitting councillor Northey voted for the current Unitary Plan involving highrise apartments in your neighbourhood – this is a plan I will never support. It’s time for a new generation of leadership.” “This election is about trust, and I pledge to listen to local residents and be guided by them. We cannot accept neverending rate increases, relentless urban intensification, and the loss of local amenities. I want to be a voice for local residents who say there has to be a better way” said Mrs Krum.
The co/founder and director of TableSide Charitable Trust, Denise Krum is well known for leading numerous community transformation projects within local shopping centres and neighbourhoods. From Onehunga Town Clean/up to supporting Te Waipuna Puawai, a teen mothers programme in Glen Innes, Denise already energetically serves Maungakiekie/Tamaki.
“Family and neighbours are a big part of my life. I want to see my children, as well as all young people in our community, from Glen Innes to Onehunga, from Royal Oak to Point England grow up in the best community and have the best start in life.” “I don’t want to see young families trapped in shoebox apartments, or forced out of Auckland altogether because our council never bothered to address policy decisions that drive up the cost of living” “As a councillor for Maungakiekie/Tamaki, I will lend my vote to challenge the current direction of Auckland Council,” said Mrs Krum.
A self/confessed fitness junkie, the 42/year old has in recent years taken up triathlon competition. She promises to channel that same energy and stamina into an old fashioned grass roots campaign across the ward.
“Residents and ratepayers can expect me to be high profile, grass roots/connected, and energetic throughout this campaign and beyond. I want to give people the contest of ideas that they deserve,” said Mrs Krum.
