Peace for Syria: a view from The Peace Foundation
Peace for Syria: a view from The Peace Foundation
29 August 2013
The Council of The Peace Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand expresses its deep sadness at the excessive brutality and continuing loss of life in Syria.
“The use of chemical weapons constitutes an additional serious crime against humanity. We ask that our Government argue strongly and urgently that a United Nations delegation invite the leaders of the warring factions to peace talks, with the aims of establishing an election in the near future and of sending an international peace-keeping force to Syria as soon as humanly possible.”
“These peace keepers should be equipped to deal with any violence. The force should include personnel from China and Russia as well as the United States, the United Kingdom and France if at all possible. The leader should not be from any of the most powerful nations to avoid symbolizing an imperialistic agenda."
